Mexican authorities killed Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, the head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, in a military operation. The US provided intelligence support for the mission, the White House confirmed.

The killing sparked widespread violence across Mexico. Suspected gang members set buses and businesses on fire, clashed with security forces, and blocked roads. Mexico’s Security Cabinet reported over 250 blockades across 20 states, although most of them have now been cleared.

The unrest has affected tourists in several popular destinations. The US State Department advised American visitors to stay in hotels or residences and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas. Many travelers were stranded after flights to Puerto Vallarta and other regions were temporarily suspended.

Authorities are working to restore safety and reopen roads. Local law enforcement continues to patrol key areas and remove remaining obstacles. Travelers are urged to monitor official updates, follow local guidance, and stay in secure locations until the situation stabilizes.

This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Mexico related to organized crime and cartel activity. Tourists are reminded to plan carefully and prioritize safety when visiting the country, as authorities take steps to ensure public security and limit further disruptions.
