The 35-year-old defender, who currently plays for Burnley FC, confirmed that he will step away from international duty with immediate effect. Walker earned 96 caps for England and represented his country at five major tournaments.

In a statement, Walker described his time with England as a “whirlwind journey.” He said he felt proud of his achievements but believed the moment had come to close this chapter of his career.

Major Tournaments and Key Moments

Walker made his England debut in 2011 during a match against Spain national football team. Over the next 14 years, he became one of the team’s most reliable defenders.

He represented England at the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022. He also featured in three editions of the UEFA European Championship in 2016, 2021, and 2024.

During the tenure of former England manager Gareth Southgate, Walker played a crucial role as England reached the European Championship finals in both 2021 and 2024.

His final appearance came in June 2025 in a friendly against Senegal national football team.

Legacy With England

Walker leaves the national team just four caps short of reaching 100 appearances. Despite that, his influence on the squad remains significant.

He also enjoyed remarkable success at Manchester City, where he won multiple trophies including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

The experienced right-back earned praise for his speed, versatility, and leadership on the field. Many managers relied on his defensive strength and tactical flexibility during important matches.

Walker said he hopes he helped improve how people view the England team and reduce the pressure players feel when representing their country. His international career now ends as one of the most respected right-backs in England’s modern football history.
