British number three Katie Boulter claimed her seventh consecutive WTA Tour victory as Camila Osorio retired during their second-round match at the Merida Open.
Boulter, fresh from her Ostrava Open win this month, had taken the first set 6-3 in Mexico when Colombian Osorio called for the physio and chose not to continue.
World number 69 Boulter will meet either Italian top seed Jasmine Paolini or Australian Priscilla Hon in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Reflecting on injuries in the sport, Boulter said, “We really don’t want to see women with injuries. It’s been tough recently. I’ve seen a lot of players struggle, and I’ve been through them myself, so I know how difficult it is.”
Attention now turns to Indian Wells, the third WTA 1000 tournament of the year, starting on 4 March in California.
