Iran says it has struck a US naval base in Bahrain as it launched missile attacks across the Middle East in retaliation for what it called a “massive” assault by the United States and Israel.

Large plumes of black smoke were seen near the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Manama. The full extent of the damage remains unclear, and US officials have not yet issued a public statement.

Bahraini authorities confirmed that the target was Naval Support Activity Bahrain, which serves as a home port for US naval vessels, including anti-mine and logistics ships. It is not yet known whether ships were present during the strike.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attacks form part of an operation named “Truthful Promise 4.” The group stated it is targeting US bases and military assets across the region in response to recent strikes on Iranian sites.

Missiles were also intercepted in several countries that host US military bases. Qatar’s defence ministry said its air defence systems intercepted missiles aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US base in the region. Jordan’s armed forces reported shooting down two ballistic missiles, while the United Arab Emirates said its defence systems intercepted multiple missiles. Debris reportedly fell in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing material damage and killing one civilian.

Israel activated nationwide sirens after its military detected multiple Iranian missile launches. Israeli air defences worked to intercept incoming threats throughout the day.

The United States maintains around 13 military bases across the Middle East, with between 30,000 and 40,000 troops typically stationed in the region.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the US and Israeli strikes as illegal and unprovoked. He said Iran’s armed forces were prepared to respond and would retaliate firmly.

The situation marks a serious escalation, with multiple countries now involved in missile interceptions and regional security on high alert.
