Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made NBA history by breaking a 63-year-old record for consecutive 20-point games.

The reigning MVP scored 35 points in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 104-102 win against the Boston Celtics, marking his 127th straight game scoring at least 20 points. The previous record was held by Wilt Chamberlain, who had 126 consecutive 20-point games from October 1961 to January 1963.

“All the records and accomplishments are great, but they don’t matter if you don’t win, and that was all on my mind,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “I would have given the record for the win any day. I’m glad we won and I got the record.”

The 27-year-old Canadian made history with a 20-foot jumper in the third quarter, reaching 21 points and extending the streak. He finished the game with 35 points, nine assists, and six rebounds.

“I just give the game everything I have,” he added. “There are many things in basketball and life you can’t control. I focus on what I can control and give my best effort. I put my head down, do those things, and look up to see some accomplishments.”

The Thunder, now 52-15, are top of the Western Conference and riding a seven-game winning streak, while the Celtics sit second in the Eastern Conference with a 43-23 record.
