Mohamed Suleiman broke down in tears inside Port Sudan’s telecom office. The journalist hadn’t heard his phone ring throughout Sudan’s three-year civil war. Army-RSF power struggle began April 15, 2023.

Suleiman fled el-Fasher after 18-month RSF siege and communications blackout. He witnessed systematic drone killings, bombings, and starvation. “Day of Judgment on Earth,” he described RSF’s October takeover.

His phone erupted with three years of delayed messages upon activation. Colleagues reported dead. Friends demanded proof of life. One caller doubted his survival until video confirmation triggered tears.

Silence amplified el-Fasher’s suffocating horror. UN monitors declared famine during RSF stranglehold. Fighting created army-RSF territorial split. Millions displaced in world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

US diplomatic efforts collapsed. Regional powers fuel both sides. Civilians caught between RSF and army allies lost food, shelter, identity—and voice.
