Smith lights up Multan’s chase

Australia’s Steve Smith smashed a quickfire 56 from 31 balls at the top of the order to set up Multan Sultans’ successful chase of 167 against Rawalpindiz. His knock helped Multan cross the line with eight balls to spare, extending Rawalpindiz’s losing streak to eight straight matches.

Smith’s compatriot Ashton Turner finished the job with an unbeaten 37, guiding the visitors home without serious panic. The win kept Multan firmly in second place on the PSL points table.

Rawalpindiz’s batting collapse

Opting to bat first, Rawalpindiz fell into trouble early when opener Shahzaib Khan perished in the opening over. Skipper Muhammad Rizwan struggled for fluency, crawling to 26 from 29 balls before the pressure mounted.

New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell led a partial recovery with 58, while Sam Billings (29) and Dian Forrester (37) added handy cameos to lift the side to 166–4. That total, however, never looked enough against a disciplined Multan batting line‑up.

What the form run means for both teams

The defeat confirms Rawalpindiz’s elimination from the PSL and underlines their ongoing form slump. Their batting inconsistency and inability to close games have turned their campaign into a long stretch of rawalpindiz misery.

In contrast, Multan’s controlled chase and clinical finish keep their playoff hopes strong. With Smith in aggressive touch and the middle order contributing, they look among the most complete sides in the league.
