Russia Supports Diplomatic Push Ahead of US-Iran Talks in Islamabad

Russia has expressed support for upcoming negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, stating that a “window of opportunity” has opened to de-escalate tensions in the Persian Gulf region. The remarks come as international attention turns toward Pakistan-mediated talks aimed at reducing conflict and restoring regional stability.

Moscow Urges Responsible Conduct From All Parties

The Russian Foreign Ministry called on all stakeholders involved in the negotiations to act responsibly and avoid steps that could undermine the fragile diplomatic process. It stressed that constructive engagement is essential at this stage, warning that missteps could jeopardize efforts to reach a sustainable agreement.

Russia Backs Islamabad-Led Diplomatic Efforts

Moscow welcomed the initiative to hold US-Iran discussions in Islamabad, noting that many countries are supporting diplomatic pathways to reduce tensions. The statement highlighted that coordinated international efforts are increasingly focused on preventing further escalation in the region.

Concerns Over Obstructions to Peace Process

While expressing optimism, Russia also warned that certain unnamed actors may be attempting to disrupt progress toward peace. It emphasized the importance of accurately reflecting developments surrounding the conflict, including maritime security conditions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Call to Address Root Causes of Conflict

Moscow reiterated that lasting stability can only be achieved by addressing what it described as the “root causes” of the crisis. It linked the ongoing instability to broader regional conflicts and called for an end to hostilities, urging all sides to prioritize long-term political solutions over military action.

Proposal for Regional Security Framework

Russia also reaffirmed its long-standing proposal for a collective security framework in the Persian Gulf, which would include dialogue among regional states and external partners. The initiative aims to build a more balanced and cooperative security structure to prevent future conflicts.

Push for Diplomatic Resolution Continues

The statement concluded by reinforcing Russia’s commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts and encouraging all parties in the Islamabad talks to remain focused on achieving meaningful progress. The message reflects growing international interest in ensuring the negotiations lead to a reduction in tensions and improved regional stability.
