Lauren Bell can’t believe she now leads England’s pace attack. The 25-year-old seam bowler fills shoes once worn by Anya Shrubsole and Katherine Brunt. Kate Cross’ summer exit thrust Bell into the senior role.
England dropped Cross, leaving Bell as most experienced among Issy Wong, Lauren Filer, and all-rounders Danielle Gibson, Em Arlott, and Freya Kemp. Bell calls Cross a “big sister” mentor she still consults.
The Hundred breakout star became a £140,000 signing and Royal Challengers Bengaluru WPL winner. Her 2.2 million Instagram followers surpass Joe Root and Harry Brook combined. Three World Cups and two Ashes followed her 2021 debut and 2022 England call-up.
Christmas South Africa tour accelerated her leadership. Coach Charlotte Edwards split 30 players into competitive squads. “Playing teammates adds extra fire—they know your every thought,” Bell said.
England builds toward this summer’s home T20 World Cup. Bell embraces the role she loves despite rapid rise. “Time flew—I don’t know how this happened,” she marvels.
