Kimi Antonelli secured his second consecutive win and moved to the top of the Formula 1 world championship after a dramatic Japanese Grand Prix.

The 19-year-old Italian driver benefited from a well-timed safety car period that played a key role in his victory. While his main rivals, Oscar Piastri and George Russell, had already completed their pit stops, Antonelli stayed out on track.

The race changed when Oliver Bearman crashed heavily, bringing out the safety car. This allowed Antonelli to make his pit stop with minimal time loss, helping him maintain his lead once the race resumed.

Despite questions about whether the safety car decided the result, Antonelli showed strong pace throughout the race. His team believed he could have kept the lead even under normal conditions.

Antonelli admitted he struggled at the start but quickly recovered. He credited both the timing of the safety car and his impressive speed for the win.

Behind him, Oscar Piastri finished second, followed by Charles Leclerc in third. George Russell ended the race in fourth place and expressed frustration over the radio as he realized Antonelli had beaten him again.

With this result, Antonelli became the youngest driver ever to lead the Formula 1 championship. He now holds a nine-point advantage over his teammate.

The turning point came on lap 22 when Bearman lost control at high speed while battling for position. He ran onto the grass, spun across the track, and hit the barrier with significant force. The crash triggered the safety car that ultimately reshaped the race outcome.

Bearman exited the car carefully and received medical checks before being cleared. The incident highlighted the risks of high-speed racing and the importance of safety measures in Formula 1.

This victory strengthens Antonelli’s position as a rising star in the sport. While it remains early in the season, his performance signals a strong challenge for the championship.
