EMMA RADUCANO admitted she still has “a long way to go” after a heavy defeat to Amanda Anisimova at the Indian Wells Open.

The British star lost 6-1, 6-1 in just 52 minutes as the sixth-seeded American dominated the third-round match in California.

Anisimova broke Raducanu’s serve in the opening game and quickly took control. Raducanu managed only 11 points in the first set. She also fell 3-0 behind in the second before finally holding her serve.

Raducanu admitted the difference in power was clear against top players.

“When I play someone at that level, it feels like their serve is much faster,” she said. “If I’m not feeling confident, that gap becomes more obvious.”

She added that she must play more aggressively against the world’s best players but believes she still needs time to reach that level.

Raducanu working to rebuild form

Raducanu recently started working with temporary coach Mark Petchey after ending her partnership with Francisco Roig in January.

She hopes to rediscover the style that helped her win the US Open in 2021.

Despite the loss, Raducanu said she saw positives from her recent practice sessions and her second-round win over Anastasia Zakharova.

“I can choose to feel negative about today,” she said. “But overall the past days have been productive.”

Anisimova moves into last 16

Anisimova will now face Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko in the fourth round.

The 19-year-old reached the last 16 after continuing her impressive run in the tournament.

Coco Gauff forced to retire with injury

Elsewhere, world number four Coco Gauff retired from her match against Alexandra Eala after suffering a painful arm injury.

Gauff said the injury felt “like a firework going off” inside her arm. The pain worsened during the match, forcing her to stop while trailing 6-2, 2-0.

The American received medical treatment on court before deciding to withdraw after 54 minutes.

Gauff plans to undergo an MRI scan but hopes to return for the Miami Open later this month.

Other results from Indian Wells

World number one Aryna Sabalenka defeated Jaqueline Cristian to reach the fourth round. She will next face Naomi Osaka, who beat Camila Osorio in three sets.

In the men’s competition, Jannik Sinner defeated Denis Shapovalov to reach the fourth round.

Sinner will face Brazilian rising star João Fonseca, who defeated Tommy Paul.

Meanwhile, Germany’s Alexander Zverev beat Brandon Nakashima in a tight three-set match.
