Turkey is mourning after a tragic school shooting in Kahramanmaras left the nation in shock and grief.
The deadly attack took place at Ayser Calik Secondary School, where a 14-year-old student opened fire, killing eight children and one teacher. The incident marks one of the most devastating school shootings in the country’s recent history.
Outside the city morgue, grieving families and community members gathered as the victims’ coffins were carried out, each draped in the Turkish flag. Among them was a 10-year-old boy whose father broke down in sorrow as relatives supported him through the crowd.
The tragedy has deeply shaken the community, with parents and residents expressing anger over school security failures.
One mother, devastated by the loss of her daughter Zeynep, mourned outside the main mosque. Family members described the child as bright, respectful, and full of promise.
The attack has also reignited national concerns about violence in schools. Just one day earlier, another shooting occurred in the same region, where a former student injured 16 people at a different school.
Experts warn that such incidents, although historically rare in Turkey, may have a copycat effect.
Asli Carkoglu, a specialist in adolescent psychology, said that repeated violent incidents in a short period can influence vulnerable young minds.
