However, chaotic scenes after the final whistle overshadowed the result. Supporters from both sides invaded the pitch, forcing police and stewards to intervene.

Celtic Progress After Tense Penalty Shootout

The match itself offered little quality. Both teams struggled to create clear chances throughout the 120 minutes.

Celtic managed only one shot on goal and failed to register a shot on target during normal play. Despite that, they survived the contest and eventually won in the penalty shootout.

Tomas Cvancara scored the decisive penalty, beating Jack Butland to send Celtic into the next round.

Pitch Invasion Sparks Tension

After the shootout, many Celtic supporters at the Broomloan Road end entered the pitch to celebrate. Around 7,500 away fans had attended the match.

Initially, a small group of Rangers supporters from the Copland Stand reacted angrily. Security quickly pushed them back.

More Celtic fans continued to stream onto the field despite pleas from club staff to return to the stands. The situation quickly became tense as Rangers fans also moved toward the pitch.

Police and stewards stepped in to separate the groups and prevent direct clashes between supporters.

Confrontations on the Field

During the chaos, some Rangers supporters confronted members of the Celtic staff. Security staff and police detained one individual after an incident near the touchline.

Another moment of tension involved Celtic defender Julian Araujo, who appeared to be approached by a supporter before being led away by manager Martin O’Neill.

Objects were also thrown between sections of fans, including a flare and other missiles.

The Scottish Football Association has opened an investigation into the incident.

Poor Quality Match on the Pitch

The game itself disappointed many fans. Both teams struggled with misplaced passes, inaccurate crosses and repeated fouls.

Rangers controlled much of the possession but failed to convert it into meaningful chances. Their attacking play lacked creativity and precision throughout the match.

Celtic, meanwhile, relied heavily on defensive discipline to survive the pressure.

Celtic Missing Key Players

Celtic played without several important players, including captain Callum McGregor. Injuries also kept Kieran Tierney, Kelechi Iheanacho, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnston, Arne Engels and Jota out of the squad.

Despite the absences, Celtic’s defense held firm throughout the match.

Rangers Fail to Capitalize

Rangers entered the match with a stronger squad and home advantage. The club has spent heavily under owner Andrew Cavenagh to strengthen the team.

However, the performance failed to justify that investment.

New signing Andreas Skov Olsen struggled to make an impact. His corner kick early in the second half summed up Rangers’ lack of quality.

At one point in extra time, Emmanuel Fernandez thought he had scored. But the goal was ruled out because the ball struck his hand before entering the net.

Scottish Cup Remains Celtic’s Chance for Silverware

Both clubs remain under pressure this season as they trail Heart of Midlothian F.C. in the league race.

For Rangers, the Scottish Cup represented their best chance of winning a trophy this season. That opportunity has now disappeared.

Celtic, meanwhile, move one step closer to the final despite a chaotic and controversial end to the match.
