CHRIS SUTTON has shared his predictions for the FA Cup fifth round as several exciting fixtures approach this weekend. One of the biggest matches will see Newcastle United face Manchester City again at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Sutton believes both teams might feel tired of playing each other. They have already met four times this season.
Manchester City performed strongly when they defeated Newcastle over two legs in the EFL Cup semi-finals. However, Sutton expects a much tighter game in this FA Cup clash.
Steven Knight Joins the Prediction Panel
This week, Sutton is joined by Steven Knight, the creator of the hit TV series Peaky Blinders. Knight is a long-time supporter of Birmingham City.
Knight recently released a new film connected to the series titled The Immortal Man. The film premiered in cinemas on Friday and will arrive on Netflix on 20 March.
Together, Sutton and Knight shared their views on all eight FA Cup fifth-round ties. Fans can also compare their predictions with AI forecasts generated using Microsoft Copilot.
Birmingham City’s Historic FA Cup Memories
During the discussion, Knight reflected on Birmingham City’s long and difficult FA Cup history.
The club has never won the famous competition. Their best achievements were two appearances in the final.
The last time Birmingham reached the FA Cup final was 70 years ago. They lost to Manchester City at Wembley Stadium in a famous match known as the “Trautmann Final”.
In that game, Manchester City goalkeeper Bert Trautmann famously continued playing despite breaking his neck.
Knight recalled that his eldest brother attended that historic match. He said the famous Birmingham anthem “Keep Right On” gained popularity during that cup run and was also sung at the final.
That season also saw Birmingham finish sixth in the old Division One, which Knight considers one of the club’s strongest eras.
A Painful Semi-Final Memory
Knight also remembered a heartbreaking FA Cup semi-final experience from 1975.
Birmingham faced Fulham in a replay at Maine Road. The match ended dramatically when Fulham scored in the final minute of extra time.
Knight attended the match with family members and friends. He said the defeat remains one of the most memorable games he has watched, but for disappointing reasons.
Sutton and Knight shared their predictions while speaking to BBC Sport journalist Chris Bevan.
