ARVID LINDBLAD is on the brink of history. At just 18 years old, he is set to become Britain’s youngest-ever Formula 1 driver.

Sitting on a quiet beach in Bahrain, not far from the circuit where he and his Racing Bulls team are preparing for his Formula 1 debut in Australia, Lindblad reflects on a dream that has been years in the making.

When asked about the best thing that has happened since earning his F1 seat, his answer is simple:

“The best thing was just becoming a Formula 1 driver.”

The Moment Everything Changed

Lindblad learned about his promotion during the Qatar Grand Prix weekend while competing in Formula 2. The news was delivered by Helmut Marko, who brought him into the Red Bull junior programme at just 13 years old.

Sharing the moment with his father made it even more meaningful. Motorsport has always been a family passion, passed down through generations.

“It was something I’ve been doing with my dad,” Lindblad says. “That made it very special.”

Even now, he admits it sometimes feels unreal.

“A little bit,” he smiles.

A Rare Cultural Blend

Lindblad’s arrival in Formula 1 also marks an important milestone for diversity in the sport.

He is one of five British drivers on the grid this season — six if counting Alex Albon, who was born and raised in the UK but races under the Thai flag. Lindblad is also the first British driver of Indian heritage to compete in Formula 1.

His father, Stefan, is Swedish. His mother, Anita, has Indian roots. His maternal grandparents were directly affected by the 1947 partition of India, forced to leave their home in Punjab and rebuild their lives in the UK as doctors.

Lindblad says he is proud of his background.

“It’s quite a rare combination, but I’m very proud of my heritage. All three parts have really shaped who I am.”

From traditional Indian rituals and food to Swedish influences and British upbringing, he describes his identity as a blend of cultures that has defined his character and resilience.

A Childhood Dream

Motorsport runs in the family. His grandfather was passionate about racing, a love he passed to Lindblad’s father — and eventually to Arvid himself.

At just three years old, Lindblad tried motocross. By five, he was karting — and hooked.

One childhood memory stands out. Sitting beside his father watching Formula 1 on television, he asked whether it was possible to one day be there himself.

That question sparked a belief that never faded.

“From five, I believed I could be in F1,” he says. “That was always what I was working towards.”

Eyes on the Future

Now, as he prepares for his grand prix debut, Lindblad represents more than just youthful talent. He embodies ambition, cultural pride, and years of unwavering focus.

Becoming Britain’s youngest Formula 1 driver is a remarkable milestone — but for Arvid Lindblad, it feels like just the beginning.
