TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR face a major crisis this season. The club must now decide how to respond.

A heavy 5-2 defeat against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League has intensified pressure on interim manager Igor Tudor.

Spurs have lost four consecutive matches under Tudor. His short 25-day tenure has produced little improvement.

The defeat in Madrid further damaged Tottenham’s hopes in Europe. However, the bigger concern is their position in the Premier League.

Relegation Fears Grow

Tottenham sit just one point above the relegation zone with nine league matches remaining.

The club last dropped out of the top division in 1977. Avoiding another relegation is now the immediate priority.

Football commentator John Murray described the situation as a “football crisis”.

Spurs must now prepare for a difficult away match against Liverpool at Anfield.

Their recent record at the stadium is poor. Tottenham have conceded 17 goals in their last four visits in all competitions.

A crucial home game against relegation rivals Nottingham Forest will follow soon after.

Players Admit Emergency Situation

Midfielder Yves Bissouma admitted that the squad sees the current situation as a “big emergency”.

Former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood criticised Tudor’s impact.

Sherwood said Tudor has failed to boost confidence in the squad. He compared the manager to “a firefighter holding petrol instead of water”.

The squad’s confidence also appears low. Former winger Chris Waddle believes many players struggle with pressure.

He said a lack of confidence often causes players to avoid responsibility on the pitch.

Possible Manager Replacements

If Tottenham decide to replace Tudor, the club has limited options.

Former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason previously served as interim manager in 2021 and 2023. However, he recently left his coaching role after a short spell with West Bromwich Albion.

Another former manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has also been linked with the job. But he currently manages the United States men’s national soccer team and is unlikely to leave before the upcoming World Cup.

Veteran coach Harry Redknapp has already ruled himself out of a return.

Other candidates previously discussed include Roberto De Zerbi, Edin Terzic, and Marco Rose.

Within the Premier League, names such as Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola, and Marco Silva could also attract interest.

However, convincing any of them to leave their clubs mid-season may prove difficult.

Spurs Need Confidence and Leadership

Tottenham ended a 17-year trophy drought last season by winning the UEFA Europa League.

Despite that success, the team finished near the bottom of the league table.

The club now needs strong leadership and better man-management to restore confidence.

Whether Igor Tudor can provide that solution remains uncertain.
