The Oklahoma City Thunder delivered a dominant performance to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 139-96, handing them one of the heaviest losses in franchise history.
The Thunder controlled the game from start to finish and strengthened their position at the top of the league standings. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge with 28 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists, while Isaiah Joe added 20 points.
The 43-point defeat ranks among the worst losses the Lakers have ever suffered. It also marked their biggest defeat since a 44-point loss in 2023. The Thunder’s 139 points stand as the highest total conceded by the Lakers this season.
The result became even more concerning for the Lakers after Luka Dončić left the game with a left hamstring injury. The Slovenian star appeared emotional as he exited during the third quarter. He had been in exceptional form, scoring 40 or more points in three consecutive games before this match.
Head coach JJ Redick confirmed that Dončić will undergo an MRI scan to determine the severity of the injury.
Despite the heavy loss, the Lakers had entered the game in strong form. They had won 13 of their previous 14 matches and continue to push for a top-three seed in the Western Conference standings.
Austin Reaves led the Lakers in scoring with 15 points, even while dealing with back discomfort. LeBron James contributed 13 points in limited minutes but could not prevent the one-sided defeat.
With the playoffs approaching, the Lakers now face uncertainty around Dončić’s fitness and must quickly recover from this setback to maintain their position in the standings.
