Authorities in San Francisco have arrested a 20-year-old man after he allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at the residence of Sam Altman, setting a perimeter gate on fire.

Police responded quickly to an emergency call from the North Beach area early Friday morning. Although officers did not officially identify the homeowner, a spokesperson from OpenAI confirmed that the property belonged to Altman.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. However, about an hour later, he appeared outside an OpenAI office in the city. According to police, he threatened to burn down the building. Officers then arrested him at the scene.

Officials confirmed that no one suffered injuries during the incident. OpenAI expressed gratitude for the swift response from local law enforcement and emphasized the importance of employee safety.

The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet confirmed whether they will file formal charges.

Sam Altman, a leading figure in the tech industry, plays a major role in advancing artificial intelligence. His company gained global attention after launching ChatGPT in 2022, which accelerated innovation and investment in AI technologies worldwide.

As AI continues to evolve, discussions about its social and economic impact have intensified. OpenAI has recently proposed policies aimed at reducing potential risks. These include workforce training programs, skill development initiatives, and increased corporate responsibility to ensure people remain at the center of technological progress.
