Spurs suffered a humiliating 5-2 loss against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 clash.

The defeat marked the fourth consecutive loss under interim manager Igor Tudor.

Nightmare Start in Madrid

Tottenham’s problems began early in the match.

The team conceded four goals within the first 22 minutes. Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky was substituted in the 17th minute after conceding three goals during a chaotic opening spell.

Van de Ven described the start as disastrous.

He said everything that could go wrong happened during the first minutes of the match.

The Dutch defender also expressed sympathy for Kinsky, saying such a situation is difficult for any goalkeeper.

Spurs’ Losing Streak Continues

Tottenham’s defeat extended their poor run of form.

The club has now lost six matches in a row in all competitions. Spurs have also failed to win in their last nine games.

The team currently sits 16th in the Premier League table. They are only one point above the relegation zone.

Avoiding relegation has now become the club’s main objective for the remainder of the season.

Tough Fixtures Ahead

Tottenham return to league action with a difficult away match against Liverpool.

However, Van de Ven will miss the match due to suspension after receiving a red card during the recent defeat against Crystal Palace.

Spurs will also face a crucial relegation battle against Nottingham Forest later in the month.

Before that, the team must attempt to recover in the second leg against Atletico Madrid.

A Difficult Period for Spurs

Van de Ven admitted the squad is going through a very tough period.

He said the team keeps facing setback after setback.

The defender also revealed he has stopped checking his phone because of the negative atmosphere around the club.

Despite the struggles, he said he must keep moving forward and focus on the challenges ahead.
