Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky expressed gratitude to fans for their support after a “nightmare” display in Spurs’ 5-2 Champions League defeat at Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

The Czech keeper was substituted after 17 minutes, with Tottenham trailing 3-0, having made errors that contributed to Atletico’s first and third goals.

Kinsky posted on Instagram: “Thanks for the messages. From dream to nightmare to dream again. See you.” Several teammates consoled him as he left the pitch.

Spurs manager Igor Tudor had selected Kinsky ahead of Guglielmo Vicario and explained after the match that the early substitution was necessary.

“It was necessary to preserve the guy and preserve the team,” Tudor said. “Before the game, it was the right choice given the pressure on Vicario in another competition. Toni is a very good goalkeeper, and this was the right decision at the moment. After, it’s easy to say it was not.”

Tudor added that he spoke to Kinsky after the match, emphasizing his confidence in him. “I explained to Toni that he is the right guy and a good goalkeeper. Unfortunately, mistakes happened in this big game.”
