The Premier League has paused for almost three weeks as international football takes centre stage.

For some clubs, the break comes at the perfect moment to regroup, while for others it interrupts vital momentum. With FA Cup quarter-finals scheduled in a fortnight, the next Premier League fixtures won’t take place until 10 April.

Title Race: Arsenal and Manchester City

Premier League leaders Arsenal FC enter the international break in a strong position, nine points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, although they have played one more match.

Their next league game comes on 11 April against Bournemouth, giving them plenty of time to dwell on their League Cup final loss to City. Arsenal do have FA Cup and Champions League matches in the interim: they face Southampton on 4 April and Sporting on 7 April.

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul commented: “They were unbeaten in 14 games, so how they react to this loss is crucial. The nerves are there because they’ve been close to winning the league in past seasons. Keeping their cool in the next few weeks will be vital.”

Manchester City, meanwhile, face the challenge of maintaining momentum. Forward Nico O’Reilly said: “The international break is a setback for us. We need to build on our recent win and keep fighting hard. Who knows if it will dent Arsenal’s momentum, but we are focused on our next steps.”

European Qualification: Liverpool and Chelsea

Behind the top two, the race for Champions League football is intense. Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC have struggled to maintain form. Liverpool lost to Brighton before the break and now sit fifth, five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa. Chelsea, a point further back, have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions.

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior sees the international break as an opportunity to refresh the squad: “This break may allow players to reset, gather their thoughts, and return with renewed energy. It comes at a good time for us.”

Despite their struggles, fifth place could still be enough for both clubs to secure Champions League football next season.
