ENGLAND WOMEN UNION RUGBY TEAM have named a 38-player squad for the upcoming Women’s Six Nations. Head coach John Mitchell has included seven uncapped players as he begins a new phase following the team’s recent World Cup triumph.

Several experienced players are unavailable for selection. Regular captain Zoe Stratford and Abbie Ward are both expecting children. Meanwhile, senior players Emily Scarratt and Abby Dow have retired from international rugby.

New Faces Get Their Opportunity

One of the standout inclusions is Bristol winger Millie David. She impressed last season by finishing among the top try scorers in Premiership Women’s Rugby. She also ranks as one of the leading English-qualified backs this season.

Other developing wing options include Mia Venner and Bo Westcombe-Evans. Both players have limited international experience and will aim to secure regular places in the squad.

Changes in the Forward Pack

Mitchell has made several adjustments in the second row. Rosie Galligan and Cath O’Donnell are unavailable due to personal reasons. Their absence, along with other changes, has opened the door for new talent.

Bristol players Demelza Short and Christiana Balogun have earned promotions. Both players can also operate in the back row, giving the squad more flexibility. Saracens Women player Jodie Verghese has also joined the group to strengthen the lock options.

Key Players to Watch

Lilli Ives Campion is expected to take on a bigger role. She saw limited action during the World Cup but now looks ready to step up. She could form a strong partnership with Morwenna Talling in the second row.

A New Era Begins

This squad signals a transition period for England. Mitchell is blending experienced players with emerging talent to maintain the team’s high standards.

With several fresh faces and new combinations, the upcoming tournament offers a chance to build depth and prepare for future challenges.
