The American golfer, 32, built on his opening nine-under-par 63—just one shy of the Bay Hill course record—by shooting a 68 to reach 13 under par.

Second Round Highlights

  • Akshay Bhatia (US) posted the lowest round of the day, a 66, to sit at eight under.

  • Sahith Theegala (US), Collin Morikawa (US), and Ludvig Aberg (Swe) are tied for third at seven under.

  • Ricky Fowler (US) is one shot behind at six under.

Rory McIlroy’s Rally

Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy recorded a 68 to move to four under and share ninth place. He birdied four of the first seven holes on the back nine.

“Overall I’m really pleased. I played a controlled, patient round of golf, which is what you need here,” McIlroy said.

Other Notable Performances

  • World number one Scottie Scheffler carded a 71, leaving him three under.

  • England’s Tommy Fleetwood, four over after round one, shot a 69 in round two to make the cut at one over.

Berger’s Outlook

Berger, aiming for his first PGA Tour victory since 2021, credited a smooth back-nine performance, including three birdies, for keeping him on track.

“I actually feel like I played better today—the course was tougher. I’m looking forward to the next couple of days and the challenges they bring,” he said.
