A Sydney court heard explosive arguments on day one of Rebel Wilson’s defamation trial. Lawyers called her claims against young actress Charlotte MacInnes “malicious concoctions.”

In 2024 and 2025, Wilson posted on Instagram. She alleged MacInnes felt “uncomfortable” sharing a bath with producer Amanda Ghost on The Deb film set.

Wilson claimed MacInnes retracted a harassment complaint. In return, MacInnes allegedly gained a major theater role and record deal.

MacInnes denies any complaint. She says the posts ruined her reputation for integrity. She seeks damages.

MacInnes’s lawyers argue Wilson invented the story. Wilson used it as “leverage” amid budget and contract disputes with producers.

The court reviewed private texts and emails between Wilson, Ghost, and MacInnes.

The incident unfolded September 5, 2023. MacInnes and Ghost swam at Bondi Beach. Ghost suffered a cold urticaria allergic reaction—red welts and shaking.

They returned to Ghost’s beachside apartment. MacInnes ran a hot bath. Ghost showered first to warm up.

Both entered the oversized bath wearing swimsuits. “They were not even touching at all,” MacInnes’s barrister Sue Chrysanthou SC told the court.

Ghost’s assistant brought hot drinks and joined briefly.

The next day, Wilson spoke to MacInnes. Wilson later claimed MacInnes felt uncomfortable and raised it with Ghost.

Days later, MacInnes denied saying that, per Chrysanthou.

A key text from Wilson to Ghost read: “Charlotte says all good. She just meant ‘it was a bizarre situation’ not that she personally felt uncomfortable.”

That night, all three attended a Boy George concert.
