A record number of British artists will join the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2026, marking a major moment for UK music. Iconic bands and performers such as Oasis, Iron Maiden, and Sade lead this year’s list of inductees.
In total, six British acts appear among the eight honourees. These include Joy Division and New Order, who are recognised jointly, along with Phil Collins and Billy Idol.
This achievement breaks the previous record of five British inductees set in 2019, when artists like Radiohead and The Cure were honoured. Notably, there were no British inductees as recently as 2021.
The full list of 2026 inductees also includes Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan. Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after their first commercial release.
Despite previously criticising the Hall of Fame, Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has softened his stance. He once dismissed the institution, but recently responded with humour and appreciation on social media after the band’s inclusion.
Gallagher joked about “reverse psychology” and later thanked fans for their support, calling the honour a dream come true. He even hinted at apologising to organisers during a potential acceptance speech.
The announcement took place during an episode of American Idol, presented by Ryan Seacrest alongside judge Lionel Richie, who himself joined the Hall of Fame in 2022.
This year’s induction highlights the lasting global influence of British music and its continued impact across generations.
