Dastaar was filmed across multiple locations in and around Hull in late 2025. The production was originally planned for London but was later relocated, with most scenes shot in the Hull region.

Major Economic Impact on the Region

According to Northern Films, the project contributed over £1.2 million to the local economy. The spending covered accommodation, catering, transport, and location fees.

A crew of around 130 professionals travelled from India, staying in local hotels and using regional services throughout the production period. Additional expenses included hiring local actors, renting vintage vehicles, and securing filming locations such as Carlton Towers near Goole.

Hull as a Growing Film Destination

The film featured several iconic local landmarks, including the Humber Bridge, which provided a dramatic backdrop for key scenes.

Producer Andrew Fenton noted that nearly 95% of the film was shot in the Hull area, making it one of the most locally concentrated productions in recent years.

He highlighted that this level of filming activity could help position Hull as a more attractive destination for future film and television projects.

Local Industry Growth and Opportunities

Hull has increasingly become a popular filming location, hosting major productions such as The Crown and films like Enola Holmes.

Fenton explained that many productions typically bring crews from London for short-term shoots, but he hopes to see more permanent infrastructure in the region.

He believes that building sound stages and production facilities could create long-term job opportunities and help develop local talent.

Future of Film in Hull

Industry experts suggest that investing in local studios and training facilities could strengthen Hull’s position in the UK’s growing film industry.

The success of Dastaar has already sparked interest from other production companies, raising hopes for more international projects in the future.
