The Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed that the series will now take place later in 2026. Officials cited logistical problems caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Travel Disruptions Affect Cricket Schedule

The series was originally scheduled to begin on 13 March in the UAE.

However, the cricket board announced that flight limitations and travel disruptions forced them to delay the tournament until the last quarter of 2026.

These issues followed increased tensions after the United States and Israel launched air strikes on Iran earlier this month.

Matches Planned in Sharjah and Dubai

The series schedule included three Twenty20 International matches at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on 13, 15, and 17 March.

After that, the teams were expected to play three One Day Internationals at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 20, 22, and 25 March.

Organisers now plan to reschedule these matches toward the end of the year.

Security Concerns in the Region

The conflict in the region has disrupted travel across several Middle Eastern countries.

Although the UAE reopened its airspace after a week of restrictions, security concerns remain.

Authorities reported that two drones recently fell near Dubai International Airport, leaving four people injured.

Travel Issues Affect Other Teams

Travel problems have also affected other cricket teams.

Earlier this week, the West Indies cricket team confirmed they would return home using commercial flights.

The team had been stranded in Kolkata after their elimination from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on 1 March.

Officials are now monitoring the situation closely before confirming new dates for the Afghanistan-Sri Lanka series.
