New video analysis suggests a US Tomahawk missile struck a military base near a primary school in southern Iran during recent attacks.
Iranian authorities say the incident killed 168 people, including about 110 children. The strike occurred near the Shajareh Tayebeh Primary School in Minab.
The video, published by Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency, shows a missile seconds before it hit a base linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
BBC Verify confirmed the video is authentic.
Strike Hit Military Base Near School
Experts reviewed the footage and identified the missile as a Tomahawk cruise missile.
They said the missile’s shape and flight pattern match the final phase of a Tomahawk strike.
The missile appears to hit a medical clinic inside the IRGC naval base. Iranian media reports that the clinic belonged to the IRGC Navy.
The clinic sits around 200 meters from the school.
Investigators from Bellingcat first analyzed the footage before BBC Verify conducted its own review.
Evidence Shows Multiple Strikes
The video shows thick smoke rising near the school before the missile enters the frame.
This indicates that the area had already been hit by earlier strikes.
Satellite images and previously verified videos also show multiple impacts in the same area.
Experts say the use of a Tomahawk missile strongly suggests a US operation.
Neither Israel nor Iran is known to operate Tomahawk missiles.
US Officials Review the Incident
US President Donald Trump previously said Iran was responsible for the attack.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump claimed Iran’s weapons lacked accuracy.
However, according to the BBC’s US partner CBS News, an early US assessment suggests American forces were likely responsible.
Officials said the school was not intentionally targeted and may have been hit by mistake.
Israel Denies Involvement
An Israeli government source told CBS News that Israel had no role in the attack.
The source said Israeli forces were not operating in that area at the time.
Both the US and Israel have not officially confirmed responsibility.
Iran continues to accuse both countries of carrying out the strike.
What Is a Tomahawk Missile?
The Tomahawk is a long-range cruise missile used by the United States military.
It can launch from submarines, warships, or aircraft.
The weapon has been part of the US arsenal for decades and is designed for precision strikes against high-value targets.
Experts say the missile seen in the video shows clear signs of a Tomahawk during its terminal phase.
