The White House has held a “productive and constructive” meeting with leaders from Anthropic, as concerns grow over its powerful artificial intelligence system, Claude Mythos.

The discussion comes shortly after Anthropic introduced a preview of its latest AI model, which reportedly performs advanced cyber-security tasks at a level that can rival human experts.

High-Level Talks Signal Importance of AI

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei met with Scott Bessent and Susie Wiles to discuss the future of AI development.

Officials focused on finding a balance between rapid innovation and safety. They also explored ways to collaborate and create guidelines for managing advanced AI systems.

What Is Claude Mythos?

Claude Mythos is an advanced AI tool designed to handle complex cyber-security challenges. It can detect vulnerabilities in older software systems and identify potential ways those weaknesses could be exploited.

Access to the system remains limited, with only a small number of organizations currently testing its capabilities. Early feedback from researchers describes it as highly effective in identifying security risks.

Rising Concerns About AI Capabilities

The powerful features of Mythos have sparked debate among policymakers. Experts warn that such technology could pose risks if misused, especially in areas like cyberattacks or unauthorized surveillance.

Despite previous criticism of Anthropic, the recent meeting suggests that its technology may be too significant to ignore. The government appears to be shifting toward engagement rather than exclusion.

Legal Dispute Adds Complexity

In March, Anthropic filed a lawsuit against the United States Department of Defense after being labeled a “supply chain risk.”

The designation restricted the company’s ability to work with government agencies. Anthropic challenged the decision, arguing that it was unfair and could limit innovation.

Future of AI Collaboration

The meeting highlights a growing need for cooperation between governments and technology companies. As AI systems become more powerful, clear rules and shared responsibility will be essential.

The outcome of these discussions could shape how advanced tools like Mythos are regulated and used in the future, especially in areas involving national security and public safety.
