Jon Rahm’s place in the 2027 Ryder Cup remains uncertain after he was excluded from a group of eight LIV golfers who recently reached an agreement with the DP World Tour. This leaves the former world number one at risk of losing eligibility for Europe’s next Ryder Cup team in Ireland.

England’s Tyrrell Hatton, however, is among the eight players who have been granted conditional releases to participate in LIV Golf events this year. These releases allow them to retain their DP World Tour memberships and remain eligible for Ryder Cup selection.

Both Rahm and Hatton were previously fined for competing in LIV events without approval while maintaining membership on the European-based tour. In 2024, their appeals allowed them to play enough events to keep their memberships intact, which ensured Rahm’s participation in Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup campaign over the United States last year.

The eight players who reached an agreement — including Hatton, Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk, Victor Perez, David Puig, and Elvis Smylie — now face no disciplinary action, provided they meet strict conditions. These include paying outstanding fines, withdrawing pending appeals, and participating in designated DP World Tour tournaments. The releases apply only for the 2026 season and are not precedent-setting, according to the tour.

Rahm, a two-time major winner, reportedly declined the DP World Tour conditions and has chosen to continue his appeal against the sanctions. European players who lose their DP World Tour membership are ineligible for Ryder Cup selection.

The Spaniard, who helped Europe secure the Ryder Cup last year, finished the season without a win for the first time since turning professional in 2016. Despite this, Rahm remains a key figure in European golf, with the next Ryder Cup scheduled for September 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland.
