Jannik Sinner has broken Novak Djokovic’s decade-old record for most consecutive sets won at ATP Masters 1000 events, defeating Corentin Moutet in Miami.

The 24-year-old Italian world number two recorded his 25th and 26th straight sets at Masters 1000 tournaments with a commanding 6-1 6-4 victory in just 71 minutes. He had previously equaled Djokovic’s record of 24 consecutive sets by beating Damir Dzumhur in his opening match.

“I am very happy. This sport is unpredictable, so we try to stay focused and see what comes in the next round,” Sinner said.

Sinner, a four-time Grand Slam champion, has also won the past two Masters 1000 tournaments without dropping a set, triumphing at Indian Wells earlier this month and Paris in November.

Against Moutet, Sinner dominated from the start, winning 19 of the first 26 points and taking the first set in just 22 minutes. He secured his fourth break point in the fifth game of the second set, then served out the match comfortably.

Sinner will face American Alex Michelsen in the last 16 as he aims to complete the ‘Sunshine Double’—winning Indian Wells and the Miami Open consecutively—a feat last achieved by Roger Federer in 2017.

Medvedev Eliminated After On-Court Incident

Former world number one Daniil Medvedev, who defeated Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells, was eliminated in the last-32 by Francisco Cerundolo.

The match included unusual drama when umpire Mohamed Lahyani’s elevated chair became entangled with the spider cam. Lahyani stepped down as staff secured the camera.

Cerundolo reflected on the match: “I didn’t know what to expect. It was a great, super tough match. It was my first time playing Daniil. He’s probably one of the only guys I haven’t faced, and he’s had a strong year.”
