Ghana have parted ways with manager Otto Addo only 72 days before the 2026 World Cup begins.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed Addo’s departure following a 2-1 friendly loss to Germany in Stuttgart and a heavy 5-1 defeat against Austria in Vienna. The Black Stars have now lost their last four matches, despite having key players such as Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo and Tottenham forward Mohammed Kudus.

After the Germany game, the Ghana FA stated that it had “parted ways” with Addo, with the decision taking effect immediately. The association added that it will announce the Black Stars’ new technical leadership in due course.

Addo, 50, was born in Germany and spent his entire playing career there. He earned 15 caps for Ghana and returned for a second spell as the national team manager in March 2024.

The 2026 World Cup will take place across Canada, Mexico, and the United States from 11 June to 19 July. Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on 18 June (00:00 BST), face England on 23 June (21:00 BST), and conclude their group stage with a match against Croatia on 27 June (22:00 BST).
