Ontario Premier Doug Ford agreed to sell a $21 million private jet. Critics slammed the C$28.9 million purchase as tone-deaf.

Ford planned to use the pre-owned Bombardier Challenger 650 for official trips. These included US visits to fight President Trump’s tariffs.

He confirmed the buy on Friday. Political foes quickly dubbed it a “gravy plane” and called Ford “out of touch.”

On Sunday, Ford announced the sale “as quickly as possible.” He admitted, “Now is not the right time for the expense of a government plane.”

The province partners with Bombardier to offload the 2016-built Canadian jet.

Ford vows to keep building ties with US and Canadian leaders. His goal: battle tariffs, draw investments, and boost Ontario jobs.

Critic Quotes

  • Canadian Taxpayers Federation urged Ford to “stick to flying commercial.”

  • NDP Leader Marit Stiles said Ford bailed when “the heat got too hot,” accusing him of rockstar spending on taxpayer money.

  • Liberal Leader John Fraser blasted Ford for craving “billionaire” perks while families struggle.

Key Timeline

  • Friday: Purchase revealed, backlash ignites.

  • Sunday: Ford greenlights rapid sale.

  • Purpose: Secure travel for tariff advocacy.
