SHOAIB BASHIR has received strong backing from Mickey Arthur, who believes the young spinner has the potential to achieve great success in international cricket.

Arthur described Bashir as a “national treasure” and praised his consistency at a young age. He expressed confidence that the 22-year-old will continue to develop and reach a higher level in the coming years.

Bashir played a key role as England’s frontline spinner in the build-up to the Ashes. However, selectors left him out of all five Tests in Australia. Following that period, he moved from Somerset to Derbyshire to gain more playing time and rebuild his rhythm.

Arthur acknowledged that a player’s development rarely follows a straight path. He emphasized that ups and downs are part of the learning process and help build experience.

Bashir has taken 68 wickets in 19 Test matches, showing promise despite mixed performances. During the Australia tour, he struggled in warm-up games, but he remained confident in his bowling and focused on improving his skills.

The spinner has worked closely with Mushtaq Ahmed to refine his technique. He has also spent extra hours in training to strengthen key areas of his game.

With England’s spin position still open, Bashir aims to deliver strong performances for Derbyshire and push for a return to the national side.
