Paris Saint-Germain has requested to postpone their Ligue 1 match against RC Lens, scheduled for Saturday, 11 April. The fixture comes between both legs of PSG’s Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool FC.
PSG will host Liverpool at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, 8 April, before traveling to Anfield for the return leg on Tuesday, 14 April. Meanwhile, Liverpool also face a Premier League match against Fulham at Anfield on 11 April.
RC Lens, chasing their first Ligue 1 title since 1998, issued a statement opposing the proposed postponement. The club argued that moving the fixture could undermine the integrity of the domestic league and make it appear secondary to European competitions.
“Beyond this specific case, the question is about the respect due to the competition itself,” Lens stated. “It raises concerns when the league sometimes seems to take a backseat to other legitimate ambitions.”
Lens currently trail PSG by a single point in Ligue 1. Head coach Pierre Sage emphasized after their 5-1 win over Angers that the team does not support rescheduling the match.
PSG previously benefited from a similar arrangement during their Champions League tie against Chelsea, when their league game against Nantes was postponed, allowing them to advance with an 8-2 aggregate victory.
The final decision rests with the Ligue de Football Professionnel, which confirmed it aims to support French clubs competing in European competitions. Strasbourg has also requested to postpone their Ligue 1 match against Brest, scheduled on the same weekend, due to their Conference League fixtures against Mainz.
PSG has been approached for comment regarding the request.
