Chelsea captain Reece James has signed a new six-year contract until 2032. The England international aims to continue leading the Blues while targeting a place in the 2026 World Cup squad.

Chelsea captain Reece James has committed his future to the club, signing a new six-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032.

The 26-year-old, a Chelsea academy graduate, made his first-team debut in September 2019 and has since become a key figure for the Blues. His new deal reportedly includes performance-based incentives for both individual and team achievements.

James, currently Chelsea’s highest-paid player on £250,000 per week, was set to remain at the club until 2028. The renewal had become a priority following the takeover by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital in 2022.

This season, James has started 19 of his 26 Premier League appearances, taking his total for Chelsea to 225 games.

“I am over the moon to extend my contract – Chelsea means so much to me,” James said. “I have always wanted my peak years to be here.”

The England international has won the Champions League (2021), UEFA Super Cup (2021), Club World Cup (2025), and Conference League (2025). He was named club captain three years ago.

James’ contract discussions progressed quickly, boosted by his successful recovery from multiple injuries, including December 2023 hamstring surgery. On the pitch, he has excelled in both full-back and midfield roles and has shown strong leadership, improving since early criticism under former head coach Enzo Maresca.

A key goal for James is securing a spot in England’s 2026 World Cup squad, having missed the last two tournaments due to injury. He returned to international duty in early 2025 during the qualifiers against Albania and Latvia and continues to focus on regaining a regular place for England.
