TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR suffered a disastrous start in their UEFA Champions League last-16 clash against Atletico Madrid.

Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky lasted only 17 minutes before interim manager Igor Tudor substituted him after three early goals.

The 22-year-old Czech keeper endured a difficult opening period. His slip allowed Marcos Llorente to score in the sixth minute. Shortly after, Antoine Griezmann doubled Atletico’s lead.

Kinsky’s toughest moment came in the 15th minute. He misplaced a pass that went straight to Julian Alvarez, who scored Atletico’s third goal. The young goalkeeper looked devastated and left the field minutes later.

Vicario Also Concedes After Substitution

Tudor replaced Kinsky with Guglielmo Vicario. However, the change did not stop Atletico’s momentum.

Vicario conceded within five minutes of entering the game as Atletico raced to a 4-0 lead by the 22nd minute. Pedro Porro pulled one goal back before half-time.

Despite the response, Tottenham eventually lost 5-2 in the first leg. The result leaves Spurs with a major challenge ahead of the second leg on 18 March.

Reaction From Former Goalkeepers

Several former players expressed sympathy for Kinsky after the match. Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson called the early substitution “soul-destroying.” He argued the decision could damage the young player’s confidence.

Ex-England keeper Joe Hart also shared his concern. He said he felt “heartbroken” for Kinsky after such a difficult start.

Meanwhile, David de Gea posted a supportive message on social media. He reminded fans that the goalkeeper’s role is one of the toughest positions in football.

A Tough Night for the Young Keeper

Tottenham signed Kinsky from Slavia Prague in January 2025 for about £12.5 million. He faced three shots during his brief appearance and made no saves.

Although the night ended badly for the young goalkeeper, teammates showed their support as he left the pitch. Spurs now must regroup quickly before the crucial second leg.
