MAURICIO POCHETTINO has admitted that he misses working in English football, highlighting his strong connection to the game in the country.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea manager now leads the United States men’s national soccer team. He took charge in September 2024 and is preparing the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Strong Connection to England
Pochettino expressed his admiration for England’s football culture. He said the country offers the perfect environment for competition and personal growth.
He believes the Premier League challenges managers and players to perform at their highest level consistently.
Premier League Journey
The Argentine coach enjoyed multiple spells in English football. He built his reputation at Southampton before moving to Tottenham, where he spent five successful years.
At Spurs, he led the team to a historic final in the UEFA Champions League. Despite that success, the club dismissed him in 2019.
He later returned to England with Chelsea but left after one season in 2024 by mutual agreement.
Future Return Still Possible
Although Pochettino rejected the chance to return to Tottenham last year, he did not rule out a future comeback to the Premier League. He described a return at that time as unrealistic but remains open to the idea long term.
He also revealed that several top clubs approached him during his time at Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
Focus on USA and World Cup
For now, Pochettino remains focused on his role with the United States. The team will co-host the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, making it a crucial period for American soccer.
While he enjoys his current role, his comments suggest that a return to English football could still be part of his future plans.
