The British number one first fell unwell during tournaments in the Middle East last month. She still experiences post-viral symptoms, which have forced her to step back from competition.

Although she received a first-round bye at the event in Miami Gardens, scheduled from 17 to 29 March, she chose to prioritize her health.

Recent Performance and Recovery Decision

Raducanu recently competed at Indian Wells Open, where she reached the third round. However, Amanda Anisimova defeated her in straight sets in a quick match.

Despite showing signs of competitiveness, Raducanu decided that full recovery remains her top priority.

She will miss the chance to defend 215 ranking points from last year’s strong run in Miami, where she reached the quarter-finals.

During that impressive campaign, she defeated players like Emma Navarro and Anisimova before losing to Jessica Pegula in a tight match.

What’s Next for Raducanu?

Raducanu has already confirmed that she will skip Great Britain’s upcoming tie in the Billie Jean King Cup.

However, she plans to return to action in about three weeks. She has entered a WTA tournament in Linz, which could mark her first appearance of the season on clay courts.

Other Miami Open Updates

Sonay Kartal will also miss the Miami Open due to a back injury. She recently impressed at Indian Wells by reaching the last 16 but had to retire during her match against Elena Rybakina.

Meanwhile, Fran Jones faces a challenging first-round match against Venus Williams.

Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, continues her career at 45. She last secured a singles win at the Washington Open but has struggled for consistency since then.

Top Seed to Watch

Aryna Sabalenka enters the Miami Open as the world number one and one of the favorites. She recently claimed the title at Indian Wells and will begin her campaign in the second round against either Ann Li or a qualifier.

Conclusion

Emma Raducanu has chosen recovery over competition, making a smart long-term decision.

Fans will hope she regains full fitness soon and returns stronger for the upcoming tournaments. Her planned comeback in Linz could mark the start of a fresh chapter in her season.
