Chris Gayle Goes European: Co-Owns Glasgow T20 Franchise

Chris Gayle celebrates Glasgow Mugafians ownership in Europe T20 push.

West Indies legend Chris Gayle joined forces with India’s Mugafi Group. They now co-own the Glasgow Mugafians franchise.

The team competes in the European T20 Premier League (ETPL). This marks Europe’s first major T20 tournament this summer.

Rahul Dravid and Ravichandran Ashwin eyed Glasgow initially. They shifted focus to Dublin instead.

Gayle, 46, boasts 103 Tests, 301 ODIs, and 79 T20Is from 1999-2021. Franchise cricket knows him as the Universe Boss.

“Europe represents cricket’s final frontier,” Gayle said. He aims to unearth local talent and build future stars.

ETPL partners with boards from Ireland, Scotland, and Netherlands. Teams hail from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.

Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan co-owns the league. Rules Sport Tech backs the venture.

Franchises sold for £11.1m ($15m) over 10 years. Matches run August 26 to September 20.
