Antoine Griezmann, the former France forward and Atletico Madrid legend, is set to join Major League Soccer side Orlando City this summer.
The 35-year-old is in his second permanent spell with Atletico, where he remains the club’s all-time leading goalscorer. Across his career, Griezmann is approaching 300 club goals, having previously starred for Real Sociedad and Barcelona.
Griezmann said of the move:
“I am very excited to begin this next chapter of my career. From my first conversations with the club, I could feel a strong ambition and a clear vision for the future, and that really spoke to me. I look forward to making Orlando my new home.”
The French international retired from national team duty in 2024, finishing with 44 goals in 137 appearances and a World Cup victory in 2018. He is expected to relocate to Florida in July and has signed a contract potentially extending until 2029.
A Legend at Atletico Madrid
Griezmann first joined Atletico from Real Sociedad in 2014 and quickly became a club icon. He celebrated Europa League glory in 2018 and, after a stint with Barcelona, returned to Atletico on loan before making his second permanent move.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Griezmann shared on Instagram:
“It’s not easy to put into words what I feel, because this club is my home and you are my family. It has been an incredible journey, full of unforgettable matches, goals, joy, and a passion that only those of us who feel Atleti can truly understand. But for now, let’s leave the future in the future: I still have months left wearing this shirt, months to give everything in our stadium and away from it, to lift that Copa del Rey and to dream of going as far as possible in the Champions League.”
Griezmann’s move to Orlando City represents a major addition to MLS, bringing a world-class attacker with vast European and international experience to the Florida-based side.
