Seres in-vehicle toilet patent reveals voice-controlled feature

Chinese carmaker files unusual patent

The Seres in-vehicle toilet concept has gained attention after the Chinese carmaker secured a patent for the feature. According to official filings, the system is designed to allow passengers to use a toilet inside a vehicle during long trips. Meanwhile, the company has not confirmed whether the feature will be introduced in future models.

Designed for long journeys and convenience

The Seres in-vehicle toilet is intended to improve comfort during extended travel. Engineers stated that the feature could be useful during road trips, camping, or situations where passengers remain inside the vehicle for long periods. In addition, the design aims to provide a practical solution without requiring extra cabin space.

Voice-controlled and space-saving design

According to the patent details, the toilet can slide out from beneath a passenger seat when activated. Moreover, users can operate the system through voice commands or manual controls. When not in use, the unit remains hidden under the seat, allowing efficient use of interior space.

Odour control and waste system included

The Seres in-vehicle toilet also includes features to manage hygiene and odour. For example, the system is equipped with a fan and exhaust pipe to direct smells outside the vehicle. In addition, waste is stored in a tank that requires manual emptying. A heating mechanism is also designed to dry waste and reduce moisture.

Innovation in competitive EV market

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers are increasingly introducing unique features to stand out in a crowded market. For instance, many vehicles already include advanced options such as massage seats, entertainment systems, and built-in appliances. Therefore, the toilet concept reflects the growing trend of adding unconventional features to attract buyers.

Company background and market position

Seres, based in Chongqing, is known for producing electric sport utility vehicles through its Aito brand. Meanwhile, the company has expanded beyond China into regions such as Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Despite intense competition, Seres remains one of the few EV firms in China that have achieved profitability.

Industry pressure and future uncertainty

The Seres in-vehicle toilet patent comes at a time when China’s EV market is facing heavy competition and pricing pressure. As a result, many companies are struggling to maintain profits, with analysts warning of potential industry consolidation. However, innovative features may help brands differentiate themselves in the evolving market.
