Vaibhav Suryavanshi blasted the joint-third fastest half-century in Indian Premier League history, powering Rajasthan Royals to a commanding eight-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings.

Chasing a modest 128 set by CSK in the tournament opener for both teams, the 15-year-old opening batter raced to 50 in just 15 balls at Guwahati. This effort came just two deliveries shy of the record set by his teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023.

Suryavanshi was eventually caught at extra cover by seamer Anshul Kamboj on 52 off 17 balls, finishing with an incredible strike rate of 305.88, including four fours and five sixes.

Yashasvi Jaiswal provided perfect support, remaining unbeaten on 38 off 36 balls as the Royals completed the chase with 47 balls to spare.

“The plan was to go big in the powerplay. The wicket was tricky early but got easier later,” Suryavanshi said. “The coaches told me to trust my game and read the situation. Jaiswal encouraged me to keep going ball after ball, and it worked perfectly.”

Earlier, England fast bowler Jofra Archer starred with the ball, taking 2-19 as CSK struggled to maintain partnerships. Among the Super Kings’ batters, Jamie Overton top-scored with 43 off 36 balls, offering some resistance but unable to halt the Royals’ momentum.
