Manchester United will not change their decision to let veteran midfielder Casemiro leave the club at the end of the season.
The Brazilian star, now 34, confirmed earlier this year that he will depart once his current contract expires. His deal reportedly earns him around £350,000 per week, making him one of the club’s highest-paid players.
Although Casemiro has delivered several impressive performances this season, Manchester United management has decided not to offer him a new contract. As a result, he will become a free agent when the season ends.
Club leadership has been working to reduce overall costs and reshape the squad for the future. The high salary attached to Casemiro’s deal became one of the key reasons behind the decision. By announcing the move early, the club hopes to focus on its long-term rebuilding plans.
Casemiro himself wanted the decision to become public before the season ended. He preferred clarity to avoid speculation about his future during the final weeks of the campaign.
Interestingly, the midfielder has produced some of his best performances after the announcement. During the recent match against Aston Villa, he scored the opening goal—his seventh goal of the season. Six of those goals have come from headers, showing his strong aerial ability.
After scoring, Casemiro celebrated by pointing to the Manchester United badge on his shirt in front of the Stretford End. The moment quickly energized supporters, who began chanting “One more year, Casemiro.”
Fans repeated the chant again after the final whistle while the midfielder walked toward the tunnel. The gesture reflected the respect supporters still have for the experienced Brazilian.
Several teammates also expressed admiration for Casemiro. Captain Bruno Fernandes and defender Leny Yoro both said they would welcome the midfielder staying at the club.
Despite the emotional support from fans and teammates, Manchester United officials remain committed to their decision. The club will continue with its current plan and will not reconsider Casemiro’s departure.
Interim head coach Michael Carrick also indicated that the situation will remain unchanged. He praised Casemiro’s influence on the squad and acknowledged his important contributions this season.
Carrick highlighted the midfielder’s leadership, key moments in matches, and ability to score important goals. He also appreciated the special connection between Casemiro and the supporters during the recent match.
As the season approaches its end, Casemiro continues to give his best for Manchester United while preparing for the next chapter of his career.
