NETFLIX has officially confirmed a sequel to the hit animated film KPop Demon Hunters. The original movie became the platform’s most-watched film of all time.

The streaming giant has not revealed a release date yet. However, the sequel will be the first project under a new multi-year exclusive deal with the film’s co-directors, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans.

Original Film Achieves Global Success

The announcement arrives as the first film continues to gain major recognition. The movie has received two nominations at the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.

One of the film’s standout tracks, Golden, already made history. The song won the Grammy Awards for Best Song Written for Visual Media. It became the first K-pop song to win in that category.

Story of K-Pop Idols and Demon Hunters

The original film follows three K-pop stars — Rumi, Mira and Zoey. They perform as members of the fictional girl group Huntr/x.

While they live glamorous lives as music idols, the trio secretly protect the world by hunting demons.

Director Maggie Kang said the team feels proud to see global audiences connect with the story and its Korean characters.

She added that the creative team has more ideas to expand the universe of the film.

Musicians Ready for the Sequel

Singer Ejae, whose real name is Kim Eun‑jae, provided the singing voice for Rumi and helped write several songs in the film.

She said she hopes the sequel will explore even more musical styles from Korea.

Ejae described the global reaction to the film and its music as overwhelming. She said it has been difficult to process how quickly the project gained worldwide popularity.

Music producer Zhun, who worked on the track “Golden,” also hopes to maintain the high-energy sound that helped make the film successful.

He said the combination of music and powerful visuals created a strong connection with audiences.

A Long Journey to the Screen

The first KPop Demon Hunters film took seven years to complete. The project went through a long development process before its final release.

Earlier interviews suggested that the creators already had ideas for expanding the story. Kang previously said the world of the film offers many opportunities for new adventures.

Songwriter Mark Sonnenblick also confirmed earlier this year that a sequel was in development. He explained that the music for the next film will grow naturally from the story.

For now, Netflix has not revealed further details about the upcoming sequel. Fans will have to wait for more updates as production moves forward.
