Babar Azam Ends Century Drought as Zalmi Crush Quetta in PSL Clash

Babar Azam ends century drought with a stunning PSL performance for Zalmi.

BABAR AZAM returned to peak form with a brilliant century, ending a long wait in T20 cricket as Peshawar Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by 118 runs in a dominant Pakistan Super League performance.

The former Pakistan captain reached his first T20 hundred in 67 innings, marking a major personal milestone after a challenging run of form in recent months. His innings came at a crucial time, as his strike rate and consistency had been under scrutiny in international and franchise cricket.

Earlier in the season, Babar struggled during the T20 World Cup, scoring only 91 runs in six matches. His difficulties continued in the Big Bash League, where he managed 202 runs at a modest strike rate and even faced an unusual dismissal when he was retired out in one game.

However, his PSL campaign showed a clear turnaround. Strong knocks of 87 not out and 71 not out set the foundation for his return to form before his explosive century against Quetta.

Against Quetta Gladiators, Babar played a near-flawless innings. He faced very few dot balls and struck six fours and four sixes, finishing unbeaten on exactly 100 runs from 52 deliveries. His century came off the final ball of the innings, sparking a strong celebration as he reached his 12th T20 hundred and third in the PSL.

Zalmi posted a massive total of 255 for 3, the third-highest score in PSL history. Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis also contributed with a quickfire 83 off 44 balls, adding further pressure on the opposition.

In response, Quetta Gladiators struggled from the start. Zalmi’s bowlers consistently struck at regular intervals, reducing Quetta to 82 for 7 early in the chase. The innings eventually collapsed for 137 runs in 18.1 overs.

The comprehensive victory extends Zalmi’s unbeaten run and strengthens their position at the top of the table. They now hold a five-point lead with just two matches remaining in the group stage.

Babar’s return to form provides a major boost for Zalmi as they head into the final stretch of the tournament, with momentum firmly on their side.
